【题    目】Recent Progress of Microcavity Exciton Polaritons in Semiconductors

【摘    要】The strong light-matter coupling in semiconductor microcavities has always been an active frontier in solid cavity quantum electrodynamics. Among a variety microcavities, the confined photon-exciton coupling forms the microcavity exciton polaritons, which exhibit macroscopic quantum superposition between photonic state and exciton state. This frontier has been pursued actively with many exciting progress in the past three decades. In this colloquium, we will focus on the recent progress in the field. We will cover the advanced multi-dimensional optical spectroscopic approaches (temporally and spatially resolved, or momentum-resolved and spin-resolved ), which is further utilized to investigate a wide range of phenomena related to exciton polariton in ZnO whispering gallery mode microvavities, such as evaporative cooling, room-temperature coherent condensation and lasing,  weak lasing and phase transition.  We will also discuss some latest results in nonlinear properties related to parametric scattering and solitons. At last, we will share our perspectives on the future applications of exciton polariotns.

【报告人简介】Professor Zhanghai Chen received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the department of physics, Xiamen University, China in 1991 and 1994 and Ph.D. degree in physics from Shanghai institute of Technical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China in 1997. During his Ph.D. study, he focused on the infrared spectroscopy of semiconductor nanostructures such as quantum wells and wires for infrared detectors. From 1999 to 2003, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in the institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials, Tohoku University, Japan, working on the spin dynamics of diluted magnetic semiconductors. He joined the department of physics, Fudan University. Shanghai China in 2003 as a Professor of Physics. He moved to Xiamen University in 2019. His main research interest is on the light-matter interaction in semiconductor nano/micro structures, e.g., cavity excitonic polaritons, exciton magnetic polaron etc, and their applications in optoelectronics. He won the Kun Huang Prize from the Chinese Physical Society in 2011. He is currently the Dean of the School of Physics and Technology.
